Chiangmai 

Hi everybody! My name is UKRIT. I am a local Chiang mai people. I live in Chiang mai since I was born. My home town is a very famous tour destination for Thai people and foreigner travellers. Therefore I would like to share all information which I know about my home town to you and  I hope it will be a good tips for you to know when you come to Chiang mai. 

For this column I would like to share a general information of Chiang mai which you may want to know.

Thailand is one of the country in southeast asia there are 76 provinces not including Bangkok which is a special administrative division. There are 4 parts of the country, northern, northeastern, southern and central. 

Chiangmai is located in the north of Thailand. It was founded in 1296 by the King Mengrai the first king of Mengrai dynasty, Lanna Kingdom which was a strong and powerful kingdom in this region.

The area of Chiang mai is 20,107 square kilometers (7,763 sq mi) and there are about 1.76 million people  are living in this province. The province is surrounded by the mountain that is why there are many beautiful tour destination on mountain of Chiang mai. There are 3 season : cold season( Nov.-Feb.), summer(Feb.-May) and rainy season(May-Oct.).

Chiang mai is a center of the northern Thailand economy, the main industry is agriculture and tourism.

The province of Chiang mai far from Bangkok the capital city of the country about 700 kms. To come to Chiang mai from Bangkok you can come by plane( 1 hr.), by bus (about 10 hrs) and by train (about 12 hrs).

Since 1982 which is the first year of Thai Tourism Year, Chiang mai had improve all facilities, personnel. Now a day travellers who come to Chiangmai will realize that very convenient to find all services such as hotels, restaurant, tour, massage etc.

There are many different type of activities and tour which you can do. There are many beautiful old temples in the old city which you can visit, If you have time you may visit temples by walk because each temples in the old city is not too far away from each other or you can take trishaw, red truck(public transportation) to go around the old city. Otherwise you can visit Doi Suthep temple the temple on the mountain( 40 mins drive), Inthanon nation park, elephants parks or go hiking depend on a time you have. Another activities such as learning massage, cooking class, mahout training is also a good idea to do if your time allow.  

After doing the tour activities you can relax yourself by get a good Thai massage or spa since Chiang mai is a famous place about this sevice. Otherwise in the evening time you can go out for dinner, there are many good restaurant in the city provided good Thai food, european food or international food.

To stay in Chiang mai, you can find all type of the accomodation since 5 stars to economy price, in the city or out of the city. Transportation is very easy to find and get them from the airport, railway station or bus station to all hotels in Chiang mai.
